  3. David frequently found refuge in a stronghold, or fortress (cf. 1 Sam. 22:4-5; 24:22; 2 Sam. 5:17; 23:14).  The word refers to a strong fortified place.  Spiritually, David trusted God for protection: "The LORD is the stronghold of my life" (Ps. 27:1).
